Our Story
Together, Logan, Philip, and Scott formed The Studio as a way to “build cool cars with my friends” as Logan would say. It became a reality in March of 2020 when Logan announced “…if the pandemic continues, the three of are going to open a shop”, and that was that, but their story starts well before.
Scott met Logan in 2011 when Scott was at an E28 gathering in San Leandro. The two were in the same group of strangers chatting when Scott mentioned that he didn’t know what shift kit was in his car. Logan said “well, let’s find out” and hopped in Scott’s E28 and pulled the shit knob and boot off. After a brief inspection, he casually said “probably OEM Z3” then quickly reassembled it. Scott was a bit taken aback, but found Logan’s confidence comforting and inspiring.
The two kept in contact and after some time Scott decided to rebuild the engine in his E28. Without the assistance of a shop, he tackled the project in the driveway. Logan joined in and took major burdens off of Scott who was working on his first big project, but Logan was a veteran. With 10+ years of industry experience, Logan was the perfect mentor. This project was far from straightforward though and they needed additional help. Scott called upon his childhood friend, Philip, to help with custom wiring and fabrication. They finished the car and realized they had similar goals and all worked together really well. Each had varying skill levels and interests that complemented each other.
Fast forward a few years and the the three began completing personal projects together in a friend’s Berkeley warehouse until the scope of work outgrew the size of the space they were given access to. Through countless hours of planning & hard work, along with the unconditional support of family and friends, Logan, Philip, and Scott have manifested their vision to create their own workspace. In April 2021, they signed a lease for a new shop location that they wouldn’t have to share. Together they carefully designed the shop to meet the needs of the traditional automotive craftsperson and opened their doors to the public in August.
This is a field that all three have each poured thousands of hours into, with combined decades of energy spent. They look forward to serving the automotive community for the foreseeable future, while maintaining a level of diligence and care typically reserved for an upper echelon of cars.
